Carolin Widmann / Laurence Equilbey

Program

Felix Mendelssohn
Concerto pour violon en mi mineur
Robert Schumann
Symphonie n° 1 « Le Printemps »

As warmer weather approaches, Laurence Equilbey and Insula Orchestra add Schumann’s first symphony, “Spring”, to their repertoire. Premiered in 1841 at the Gewandhaus, Leipzig, the piece was conducted by Mendelssohn. His own violin concerto would premiere in the same venue, four years later.
On the stage of the Seine Musicale, the violinist Carolin Widmann joins Insula Orchestra’s period instruments for this concerto, which she recorded in 2016 with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
