La jolie fille de Perth (version originale, extraits)
Les Pêcheurs de perles (version de 1863, extraits)
Laurence Equilbey meets again the Montpellier National Orchestra for a “Bizet gala” which brings together excerpts from La Jolie Fille de Perth and Pêcheurs de perles.
We know that Laurence Equilbey has always had at heart to propose both great pages of the repertoire and works that are not as well known, if not unknown. She therefore leads the Montpellier National Orchestra, with whom she has already had the opportunity to collaborate, in an exploration of two operas written by Bizet in the 1860s, some ten years before Carmen. Both La Jolie Fille de Perth and Les Pêcheurs de perles were strongly criticized for their booklets, which accumulated implausibilities, clichés and ease of intrigue; but the musical excerpts make it possible to appreciate the rich vocal inventiveness and mastery of orchestral writing of the young composer, then in his twenties.
